... received a lukewarm response on its release in 1968, but has (according to Wikipedia) become a cult classic following its release on Blu–Ray in 2014. Burt Lancaster's character is at an afternoon pool party in an affluent suburb in Connecticut, and realises that there is a string of swimming pools leading all the way back to his house. He proceeds to swim home, encountering various neighbours on the way – but he fails to make more than a superficial connection with any of the people he meets; he is obsessed with his journey, and becomes increasingly out of touch with reality.
The Swimmer has been described as "a grim, disturbing and sometimes funny view of a very small, very special segment of upper–middle–class American life."
